ONE of Victoria’s oldest Country Women’s Association groups, will celebrate its 90th birthday next week.

The Myrtleford CWA will mark the milestone with an afternoon tea and cake cutting on Monday.

The club’s secretary, Joyce McDonald, said the state president would also be in attendance for the event.

“Our Myrtleford branch is as old as the state CWA...not many are 90 like us, there are a few 80 but not 90,” she said.

“We are pretty old now, down to about 10 or 12 members, but most of us have been involved a very long time. “I was part of Beechworth CWA from 1945.” Many of the group’s members have transferred from around the state, forming long-time friendships.

“I think it is pretty special the rich history,” Ms McDonald said.

“It’s a club to keep women occupied and interested...we have made some great friendships through CWA, I am going down to Melbourne soon to meet women I met through CWA all over Victoria across the last 30 years.”

The group have also made outstanding contributions to the community.
