PROPERTY owners in the Glenrowan area are being urged to make sure their dogs are secure following an attack on a sheep last week.

The owner of sheep there were contained in a paddock 2km from Glenrowan township on the Glenrowan-Moyhu Road managed to save one of his flock after an attack last Wednesday night.

Injuries to the sheep’s front leg, which was one of 59 in the flock, needed 20 stitches and the animal was given antibiotics to reduce the chances of infection.

“It is a terribly cruel thing when dogs are tearing sheep to pieces while they’re alive,” the owner of the sheep, who did not wish to be named, said.

“Once a dog gets the taste for blood they continue to attack livestock.”

Authorities encourage people to make sure their pets are not roaming around so these types of attacks are prevented in future.
