Twosome set for triathlon
DUNCRAIG students Jade Bailey and Rachael Edwards are set to take on the nation’s best school triathletes this week.
The Year 11 St Stephen’s School students have been selected in the WA team to compete at the Australian School Sport National Championships in NSW from today until Friday.
“The competition was tight getting into the team,” Jade said.
“I was fortunate enough to secure a spot after six years of training and dedication.
“I’m very excited to travel to NSW for the first time to compete at an elite level with triathletes from all over Australia.”
Rachael, who is competing in the championships for the third time, said she was thrilled to be chosen and was determined to perform strongly.
“The competition only comes around once a year, so it is a real privilege to be selected in the WA team for 2017,” she said.
“I’m hoping to beat my previous record of seventh place.”
Both Rachael and Jade aim to continue racing competitively until graduation, with hopes to make it into the ITU World Triathlon Championships.
