WEST Coast Calisthenics is celebrating its talented youth with almost a third of the state junior team coming from the Duncraig-based club.

Last year, juniors aged seven to 10 from various calisthenics clubs around Perth attended workshops to learn the routines to prepare for a state trial, which took place in front of a panel of selectors.

Six of the 20 chosen were from West Coast Calisthenics Club, including eight-yearolds Casey Munro-Smith (Kingsley), Genevieve Crockett (Mullaloo), Kayla Ngarimu-George (Craigie) and Emily Abraham (Ballajura) and nine-year-olds Lily Smith (Kingsley) and Mia Rooney (Clarkson).

The girls will head to Sydney in July to represent WA at the Australian Calisthenic Federation National Championships. To prepare, they have been training every Sunday for five to six hours on top of their usual club training for two hours every Monday.

“The girls are working really hard and with wonderful positive attitudes, they have shown great determination to this point and are making great progress,” coach Sacha Lee said.
