SETTING world records runs in the Lee family.

Two years ago, Jason Lee set the world record for most muay thai rib kicks in 30 seconds, with 70 kicks verified by Record Setter.

His son Archer followed in his footsteps earlier this year.

When he was just 11 months old, Archer attempted to set the record for “most push kicks done by a baby in 30 seconds” in the ring in Joondalup.

The video of Archer performing 22 kicks was approved by Record Setter last month and has been sent to Guinness World Records to verify.

Mr Lee, who has been doing martial arts for more than 26 years, said his son had always enjoyed watching him train.

“Soon he began to love Thai boxing as much as me. One day I noticed he was trying to imitate me kicking the pad so I held it up and much to my surprise, he kicked it pretty well,” he said.

“So I started to train him and he started kicking pads before he could even walk.

“He is now one of the youngest martial artists around and at 15 months he is now able to put on gloves, do basic combos on the pads and hold focus mitts for you to punch.”

The biggest challenge in setting the record was getting Archer to kick continuously for 30 seconds.

“As you can imagine, trying to hold a baby’s attention can be quite difficult,” Mr Lee said.

“We thought we’d give it a go anyway since a baby kicking pads is rare and pretty damn cute.

“In practice, he actually did 52 kicks in one minute but no one recorded it.”
