$5m road fund­ing boost

LO­CAL coun­cils will re­ceive al­most $5 mil­lion for roads projects from the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment.

The 2017-18 round of Roads to Re­cov­ery fund­ing in­cludes $3.34 mil­lion for the City of Wan­neroo and $1.59 for the City of Joon­dalup.

That fund­ing in­cluded $1.8 mil­lion for the now-com­pleted Neer­abup Road widen­ing project through Clark­son, which cost a to­tal of $2.5 mil­lion.

There is also $330,000 to up­grade Wesco Road in Now­er­gup, $300,000 for pave­ment and kerb re­place­ment on Park Lane, Alexan­der Heights and $221,400 to build me­dian strips on Lands­dale Road.

Sev­eral projects in Alexan­der Heights to re­ceive fund­ing in­clude Shafts­bury Av­enue ($200,000), Rose­berry Av­enue ($180,000), Chancery Lane ($100,000), Fenchurch Street ($100,000), Hay­mar­ket Place ($25,000), Eus­ton Place ($15,000), Mill­bank Court ($15,000) and The Mall ($10,000).

Other projects in Beldon, Dun­craig, Green­wood, Mul­laloo, Ocean Reef, Pad­bury, Wan­gara and War­wick will re­ceive amounts vary­ing be­tween $45,000 and $194,000.

“Our older es­tab­lished sub­urbs have roads in need of re­pairs, main­te­nance, and safety im­prove­ments,” Moore MHR Ian Good­e­nough said.

“Lo­cal gov­ern­ment re­lies on the fed­eral gov­ern­ment to as­sist with meet­ing part of the cost of main­tain­ing the sub­ur­ban road net­work.”

Up­grades are un­der­way at the junc­tion of Park Lane and The Mall in Alexan­der Heights.
