Wanneroo Times - - Opinion - Sally Allen Northern Suburbs Stroke Support Group co-ordinator

ON behalf of the Northern Suburbs Stroke Support Group, may I express our sincere thanks to Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton for hosting a stroke awareness morning tea on Monday, September 4, the start of National Stroke Week.

We are extremely grateful for her interest in the group's activities.

Little is heard about stroke and yet each year more women will die from stroke than women with breast cancer and more men will die from stroke than men with prostate cancer.

It is estimated that about 55,000 Australians will be affected by stroke this year and one-third of them will die.

Urgent treatment is essential immediately any signs or symptoms are observed.

FAST is the easiest way to check. F - face, has it drooped? A - arms, can they lift both arms? S - Speech, is it slurred, can they understand you? And T - time is critical, call 000.
