SAILORS at Hillarys Yacht Club will join with thousands of others around the world this Sunday in a race to set a Guinness World Record and raise money for the Andrew (Bart) Simpson Sailing Foundation.

The race is a metaphor for how Simpson lived his life; it’s about valuing what we have that is great, competing at the highest level, seeking to support every up-and-coming sailor, sharing experience, providing encouragement, expecting dedication and commitment.

Simpson was a gold and silver Olympic medallist who died in an accident while preparing for the America’s Cup.

The northern rock wall groyne on Northside Drive (Hillarys Marina) will provide great viewing of the start of the race at 10am.

If you like what you see, ‘come and try’ sessions will be provided at HYC for the month of October following the opening day on October 8 and culminating with Discover Sailing Day on October 22. To find out more or make a donation go to www.bartsbash.com or call HYC on 9246 2833.
