City against island castaways

Wanneroo Times - - Street Watch -

MOTORISTS are not allowed to park on painted islands, according to the City of Wanneroo’s local law on parking.

The council recently changed the law to add the offence for parking or stopping on a painted island unless otherwise allowed by the City.

“The driver of a vehicle (other than a bicycle or animal) must not stop so that any portion of the vehicle is on a path, traffic island, median strip or painted island,” the amended law said.

During public consultation, the City received two submissions objecting to the restriction based on visitors’ and tradespeople’s needs to park in the median strip from time to time.

A City report said parking on the median strip was an offence under the Road Traffic Code.
