Roses set to put on a bloomin’ good show

Wanneroo Times - - News -

BLOOMS will fill a hall at South Perth Community Centre for the Rose Society of WA’s annual spring show this weekend.

The October 7-8 event will feature flowers grown in gardens across Perth, including floral art displays and heritage roses.

Society vice-president Sandy Beverley, of Craigie, said recent rain had helped immensely, with many flowers in bud and some varieties opening sooner than others.

“The hall will be full,” she said.

Mrs Beverley has been growing roses for about 30 years, inspired by her father.

“My father loved gardening and roses,” she said.

“I love the pleasure you get walking out the back and being able to pick a beautiful bunch of roses, and the achievement of knowing that you’ve grown it yourself.”

Spring show visitors can buy bushes, small plants, pots of colour, gifts, rose-related merchandise, homemade morning and afternoon teas, and raffle tickets.
