Fire cadets feel heat

Wanneroo Times - - Opinion -

SIX emergency services cadets are in Sydney this week for the Australian Fire Cadet Championships.

The team is part of the Quinns Rocks Bushfire Brigade Cadets unit and left Perth last week for the October 3-6 championships.

It includes captain Jay Dwyer, Benn Marshall, Martin Moon, Brendan Williams, William Wyatt and Jamie Marshall.

Coach Richard Moon said the six cadets had been training three times a week for up to 11 hours.

“The team will compete in eight events over the three days, as well as various activities such as high and low ropes courses, raft-building and other team-building activities,” he said.

“They get ranked on how quick they do it and whether they follow the safety side.

“The games aim to teach cadets teamwork, camaraderie, friendship, organisation, structure and ranking.”

Mr Moon, who travelled with the team with manager Jess Napier, said the program also included fun events and team challenges, such as building a raft.

Wanneroo council approved a $1200 sponsorship for the cadets’ trip at its September 19 meeting.
