YOUNGSTERS are encouraged to get behind the camera for Mental Health Week.

The Photovoice Project, run by the Joondalup-based North Metro Community Alcohol and Drug Service, encourages people aged 13 to 24 to take photos of activities that promote good mental health and post them on Instagram with #MHWPhotovoice (Mental Health Week Photovoice).

“This could be about playing sport, going to the beach, family gatherings, playing, or any number of healthy activities,” manager Eric Nordberg said.

The project will launch during Mental Health Week, which runs from October 7 to 14, with entries to be uploaded before October 25.

Up to 10 photos will then be selected, framed and presented to the community in an exhibit at the City of Joondalup’s Youth Services at Heathridge Leisure Centre on October 27.

“Each photographer will be contacted to describe why good mental health is important for them, which will also accompany the photos,” Mr Nordberg said.

“These photos will remain on display at various schools or participating centres for the next year, extending the importance of mental health and having a healthy mind beyond the mental health week dates. Of the 10 photos selected to be exhibited, one will be chosen as the winner and will receive 32GB iPad.”
