Sto­ries could have happy end­ing for writ­ers

STORYTELLERS have the chance to win cash prizes by en­ter­ing their tales in the Peter Cowan 600-word short story com­pe­ti­tion.

En­trants can sub­mit their sto­ries up to 600 words long to the Peter Cowan Writ­ers Cen­tre in Jon­dalup be­fore March 30 for a chance to win up to $200.

En­tries must be un­pub­lished and not have re­ceived any pre­vi­ous awards or recog­ni­tion in any other com­pe­ti­tion within or out­side Aus­tralia.

It is open to writ­ers of all ages and to sto­ries about any­thing.

The Novice Writer Award will be given to a writer who has not won any pre­vi­ous awards or recog­ni­tion in any other com­pe­ti­tion to en­cour­age be­gin­ning and fledg­ling writ­ers to en­ter. The prize is $50.

The com­pe­ti­tion also caters for young writ­ers from 12-17 years old with the Judges En­cour­age­ment Award for Youth to en­cour­age and sup­port the up­com­ing writ­ers of the fu­ture, with prize money also $50.

The Open cat­e­gory car­ries a $200 first prize, with $100 for sec­ond and $50 for third.
