KEEP EYE ON BELONGINGS IN STORES
POLICE are asking shoppers to be vigilant after a recent series of handbag thefts. Offenders are using distraction techniques to steal purses and handbags, usually by bumping or brushing past their victim. Offenders often work in pairs, with one distracting the victim by dropping items on to the floor and when the victim stops to help the other offender removes belongings from the victim’s bag. Shoppers are being urged to take all necessary precautions to guard against thefts by keeping a close eye on their handbags, not leaving them unattended in the trolley and keeping them zipped up so the purse is secured and kept over the shoulder at all times. The high-risk areas while shopping are the fruit and veg and meat sections due to customers taking their eyes off their trolleys while checking and selecting produce.
