KEEP EYE ON BE­LONG­INGS IN STORES

PO­LICE are ask­ing shop­pers to be vig­i­lant af­ter a re­cent se­ries of hand­bag thefts. Of­fend­ers are us­ing dis­trac­tion tech­niques to steal purses and hand­bags, usu­ally by bump­ing or brush­ing past their vic­tim. Of­fend­ers of­ten work in pairs, with one dis­tract­ing the vic­tim by drop­ping items on to the floor and when the vic­tim stops to help the other of­fender re­moves be­long­ings from the vic­tim’s bag. Shop­pers are be­ing urged to take all nec­es­sary pre­cau­tions to guard against thefts by keep­ing a close eye on their hand­bags, not leav­ing them unat­tended in the trol­ley and keep­ing them zipped up so the purse is se­cured and kept over the shoul­der at all times. The high-risk ar­eas while shop­ping are the fruit and veg and meat sec­tions due to cus­tomers tak­ing their eyes off their trol­leys while check­ing and se­lect­ing pro­duce.
