Landing approval sought

Resort plan for chopper

Wanneroo Times - - News - Tyler Brown

JOONDALUP Resort in Connolly has applied for retrospective approval to park and store a helicopter.

The City of Joondalup is seeking feedback on the planning application for the Country Club Boulevard resort.

The proposal includes parking and storing a helicopter on the tennis courts with a maximum of five trips per week between 9am and 7pm. Records show the resort has been used for helicopter flights since November 2017.

An acoustic report submitted with the application said the noise associated with the helicopter take-off and landing would “not adversely impact on the amenity of nearby residential premises, based on the low frequency of events and the relatively fast noise exposure time”.

However, recommendations have been made to further minimise the effect of the noise, including restricting flight times to the day only; the flight path to follow the golf course fairway to ensure low flying at take-off and landing is not over nearby residential premises; varying routes into and out of the site; reducing speed and avoiding sharp manoeuvres near the site; and minimising idling when on the ground.

Under the City’s district planning scheme, the application is seeking a discretion because it is an “unlisted use”.

Submissions can be made until October 3 at info@joondalup.wa.gov.au.
