Council decision hypocritical
AM I the only one who sees the absolute hypocrisy in Joondalup Council’s recent decision to vote against an administration recommendation to allow Sacred Heart College to make their magnificent 556-seat performing arts centre available to the broader community?
A little over 12 months ago, after numerous reports outlining the desperate need for such facilities in the City and the council’s preparedness to spend $100 million (a large portion of which was to be ratepayers’ money) to rectify this shortage, the council pulled the pin on its 850seat auditorium.
Yet when offered a facility that would house 65 per cent of that facility, which would have cost ratepayers nothing, albeit that taxpayers have already paid for it, this council has listened to a bunch of “nimbys”.
It’s about time Joondalup Council acted for the whole community on such matters. PHILIP SWAIN, Kallaroo
