Help beat can­cer stress

THE Can­cer Coun­cil WA will of­fer free pro­grams to help im­prove the lives of peo­ple in Wan­gara and Dun­craig who have can­cer.

A range of free sup­port pro­grams specif­i­cally de­signed for peo­ple liv­ing with can­cer and their car­ers will be pro­vided through the Can­cer Coun­cil’s Life Now Pro­gram.

The Life Now Yoga pro­gram of­fers a free six-week course, which aims to guide par­tic­i­pants through gen­tle stretch­ing to help im­prove fit­ness, flex­i­bil­ity and over­all well­be­ing.

The Life Now Mind­ful­ness pro­gram is a free eight-week course also avail­able to help par­tic­i­pants man­age their stress, im­prove their mood and sleep.

Par­tic­i­pants will re­ceive prac­ti­cal cop­ing tech­niques to counter the ef­fects of can­cer-re­lated stress that can be im­ple­mented in their ev­ery­day life.

Ac­cord­ing to the Can­cer Coun­cil, re­search has shown that most peo­ple ben­e­fit from a range of stressre­duc­tion pro­grams such as yoga and mind­ful­ness when prac­tised be­fore, dur­ing and af­ter their can­cer treat­ment.

The yoga pro­gram in Wan­gara will be held on Mondays from 3pm, start­ing on Oc­to­ber 15.

The mind­ful­ness pro­gram in Dun­craig will be on Wed­nes­days from 11am, start­ing on Oc­to­ber 24.
