Sabburg stumps Joondalup

Wanneroo Times - - Sport - Dustin Edwards

UNIVERSITY has crushed Joondalup on the second day of action after a brutal run chase and a sensational century to Christopher Sabburg in WACA Premier grade action on Saturday at Iluka Sports Complex.

Starting the day at 1-38, University lost Will Bosisto and Will Jacks in the blink of an eye, falling to 3-41 after some inspired bowling from Joondalup’s Joe Inglis.

Although the Centurions looked in control, University wrestled the momentum back through a superb 72-run partnership from Sabburg and Viv Paver.

The runs continued to come with ease for University, with Sabburg in rare touch with the bat.

At 5-150, Sabburg and Matthew Birrell boosted the total beyond Joondalup’s total, securing the first-innings win with a tremendous 110-run sixthwicket partnership.

Birrell was eventually dismissed for a well-earnt 63 runs, but with plenty of time left in the day University continued to bat out the overs, with Sabburg producing one of the best individual performances of the season so far.

Sabburg was finally removed by Jaron Morgan late in the day, with his incredible innings coming to an end after 165 runs.

A whopping 22 fours and one six came from Sabburg’s masterful knock, helping University to an impressive 355 at the end of the day and a valuable firstinnings win.

Joondalup will do battle with South Perth at Richardson Park in round 6.
