Milestone in helping parents

THE Glengarry Early Parenting Centre has welcomed its 150th admission six months after opening.

Marmion mother-of-two Brie Carter and her threemonth-old son Charlie were the 150th admission to the Duncraig service, which opened in May.

The 30-year-old said she sought help because her son was having sleeping issues both day and night.

He recently slept for longer than 45 minutes during the day for the first time.

“The staff were really supportive and knowledgeable and I learnt a lot about reading his ‘tired cues’ and different strategies to settle and resettle him,” she said.

“I also have a 17-monthold at home; he was a good sleeper but when I had him there was no other baby to care for, so I could rock him to sleep.

“This time around has been much harder.

“Then I heard about the Glengarry Early Parenting through a friend of my mother-in-law, who had great success at the centre with her baby.

“It’s a dedicated facility and they can watch every single nap and be there to give strategies straight away.”

Clinical nurse manager Miriam Krouzecky said she was not surprised by the number of parents booking into the service, which is within Ramsay Health Care’s Glengarry Private Hospital.

“The strong demand indicates that there is a real need in the community for this service,” she said.

“Every baby is different, which can be very challenging for parents.”

She said the centre helped babies with sleep, feeding, reflux, and colic.
