Set sail for charity
HEARTFELT connections to a charity have motivated four North Metropolitan Tafe students to plan an event to support Lionheart Camp for Kids.
The Joondalup campus team will be staging ‘Anchor Up’, a nautical-themed cocktail evening, on the Crystal Swan on Sunday, November 18, from 3.30pm to 8pm.
The night is to help raise awareness and funds for children and families who attend the charity’s camps.
Janel Went, Laura Coombes, Morgan Cawthorne and Teylar Begley formed Roaring Events to stage the fundraiser as part of their diploma of events management course.
The team started the semester with nothing in their bank account, so they had to gain sponsorship and take part in fundraising activities to put this event on.
All team members previously have dealt with losing a loved one at a young age and wanted to help children who were going through the same grieving process.
The charity holds camps for children aged five to 12 to help support them and show them how to grieve after the death of a parent, primary caregiver or sibling.
“I am excited to be on this journey with this amazing team in their last stages of their course and I can’t wait to see this event come together,” Lionheart founder Shelly Skinner said.
