LEDGE Point Country Club will host the ninth annual Ledge Point Sandcastle Competition on Saturday.

The January 28 event will be at the swimming beach between the groynes at Ledge Point from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Organiser Sheryl Dempster said 33 families took part last year, with a total of 250 participants.

“There were very creative sculptures, some being cars, sea animals, a pool table and all these are embellished with extra materials to make them look real,” she said.

Categories include ‘family’, where people can compete in groups of up to six with a maximum of two adults per group.

In the seven years old and under and eight years old and over groups, team numbers will be capped at four.

The event starts with shovels into sand at 9.30am, then Perth-based Janine George and Wendy Ramsay will judge the sandcastles from 11.15am and present prizes at 12.30pm.

There will be a free sausage sizzle at the club from 11.30am.
