Sport cash confirmed

Wanneroo Weekender - - Landsdale -

LABOR has defended its sport funding commitment for improving netball facilities at Kingsway Sporting Complex.

It pledged $500,000 last month to the project and $5000 each to the Hocking and WoolaWoolaKoolangkas netball clubs.

The Weekender reported the pledge and Sports Minister Mia Davies questioning how Labor would come up with the money: “If (Opposition Leader Mark) McGowan can’t say how he’s going to pay for it, it won’t happen.”

North Metropolitan MLC candidate Alannah MacTiernan hit back at Ms Davies and Premier Colin Barnett in a subsequent letter to the Weekender.

“We know Mr Barnett has trashed the State’s finances, but we were astounded to read Liberal-National’s Sports Minister Mia Davies suggesting they have emptied the WA coffers so comprehensively that WA cannot afford a fantastic $500,000 boost to netball facilities at the Wanneroo District Netball Association,” she said.

“However, there is enough money to fund sporting projects in Kellerberrin and the Central Wheatbelt – her own electorate.

“I’m happy to work the minister through how budgeting and election commitments work.”
