Long-awaited cen­tre up­grade on the cards

A LONG-awaited up­grade of the Ocean Reef Shop­ping Cen­tre has been pro­posed, with the City of Joondalup re­ceiv­ing a de­vel­op­ment ap­pli­ca­tion.

The pro­posed re­de­vel­op­ment of the Ma­rina Boule­vard site in­cludes re­mov­ing the ser­vice sta­tion and free­stand­ing bak­ery, ex­tend­ing the ex­ist­ing shop­ping cen­tre com­plex to the west for five new re­tail te­nan­cies, ex­ter­nal fa­cade up­grades, new pedes­trian en­trances, up­grades and al­ter­ations to the car park­ing area and land­scap­ing works.

How­ever, the ap­pli­ca­tion pro­poses the re­tain­ing walls to Ma­rina Boule­vard and Ven­turi Drive have a nil set­back to the prop­erty bound­ary, which does not com­ply with the City’s district plan­ning scheme.

The City is call­ing for sub­mis­sions on the pro­posal be­fore Fe­bru­ary 27.

The City has been call­ing for a re­de­vel­op­ment of the Ocean Reef Shop­ping Cen­tre for years, with the Week­ender pre­vi­ously re­port­ing com­plaints about the ser­vice sta­tion be­ing used as a park­ing fa­cil­ity for heavy ma­chin­ery and large trucks and an­ti­so­cial be­hav­iour.

The City of Joondalup has re­ceived plans for an up­grade to the Ocean Reef Shop­ping Cen­tre.
