Long-awaited centre upgrade on the cards
A LONG-awaited upgrade of the Ocean Reef Shopping Centre has been proposed, with the City of Joondalup receiving a development application.
The proposed redevelopment of the Marina Boulevard site includes removing the service station and freestanding bakery, extending the existing shopping centre complex to the west for five new retail tenancies, external facade upgrades, new pedestrian entrances, upgrades and alterations to the car parking area and landscaping works.
However, the application proposes the retaining walls to Marina Boulevard and Venturi Drive have a nil setback to the property boundary, which does not comply with the City’s district planning scheme.
The City is calling for submissions on the proposal before February 27.

The City has been calling for a redevelopment of the Ocean Reef Shopping Centre for years, with the Weekender previously reporting complaints about the service station being used as a parking facility for heavy machinery and large trucks and antisocial behaviour.
