ILUKA resident and mum-of-three Michelle Ryan (46) will celebrate both her birthday and 26th wedding anniversary while spending 53 days on the Bibbulmun Track.

Mrs Ryan has set out from Albany and will finish her 1000km trek in Kalamunda on Sunday, May 28 where she will hold a fundraising event for the Bibbulmun Track Foundation.

People can also join her for the last leg of the walk by meeting her to complete the final 20km, 9km or meeting at the Northern Terminus or Perth Hills Visitors Centre.

The Kalamunda Lions Club will hold a sausage sizzle at the Visitors Centre event, which starts at 2pm.

The Bibbulmun Track Foundation will also attend, with information on the trail and events they have throughout the year.

“I want to see the community come together and celebrate what an amazing asset we have here in WA and I want the adults to show the kids, get them excited about the outdoors and nature,” Mrs Ryan said.

“I spend a lot of time Michelle Ryan on the Bibbulmun Track’s Long Gully Bridge.

hiking many trails around the world, favouring the long distance, and have always used the Bibbulmun Track as my training ground.

“It feels like home to me as I spent a lot of time as a child running around the Kalamunda bush. I had walked most of the track from time to time, but never in one go, never end to end.

The idea struck while walking the Bibbulmun Track after returning from St Olav Way in Norway and West Highland Way in Scotland.

“I am expecting it to be a great adventure,” she

said. “I am so looking forward to being in the serenity of the Aussie bush.

“I am also making a documentary on the Bibbulmun Track to showcase the fantastic track we have here in WA, so I will be filming quite a bit and as I am a travel writer, I will be writing along the way as well.”

She chose to fundraise for the Bibbulmun Track Foundation because it is a volunteer-run track.
