HEATHER Donaldson, of Connolly, has volunteered with the Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) for eight years.

Nominated for the people’s choice spirit of volunteering award in Volunteering WA’s annual awards this year, Ms Donaldson has had a range of roles helping frontline SAES staff provide urgent assistance to people in emergency and disaster situations.

She started by attending emergency scenes to feed firefighters, police, State Emergency Services and other frontline staff at any time of the day and night, and often in difficult conditions.

Ms Donaldson now co-ordinates volunteers at fires and other emergency events across the state, as well filling a paid accounts position with SAES.

Her efforts have earned her the admiration of the entire emergency services community and she is regarded as one of the most valuable assets within the SAES.

She is one nine finalists in the award category and people can vote for their preferred winner until April 30, with winners to be announced on May 10. www.volunteer
