AT a time when bookshops were closing down, James Brown took a punt on one. Now his Dymocks store at Lakeside Joondalup is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

DYMOCKS Joondalup is this week celebrating its 10th anniversary as a locally owned and operated bookstore.

Iluka residents Joanna and James Brown opened the franchise in 2007 because they wanted something to “keep us busy in retirement”.

“As passionate book people and people-orientated, what better than to start a bookstore,” Mr Brown said.

“The most enjoyable part is getting to see all the beautiful and new titles coming in each month, meeting all types of interesting people from all walks of life and getting to know their choice of reading.

“Despite the challenges facing the book industry from online competition, ebooks and discount stores, we are celebrating this great milestone thanks to the support of the local community and our team of excellent and well-read staff looking after the needs of our customers.”
