THE Water Corporation has received approval to build a $36 million sewer extension through Clarkson and Neerabup National Park.

The Metro North-West Development Assessment Panel approved plans for the 1.9km section of the 11.6km main sewer, covering about 8.5ha, yesterday.

“The Quinns main sewer will direct sewerage flows from the districts of Ellenbrook, Jandabup and Neerabup to the Alkimos wastewater treatment plant,” a report to the panel said.

“These areas are currently connected to the Beenyup wastewater treatment plant. However, this was only intended as a temporary solution until these areas could be connect to the Alkimos (plant).”

The project will involve works around Walyunga Boulevard, Clarkson Community High School, North Metropolitan Tafe’s Clarkson campus, Harmony Avenue, Hannaford Avenue, Homestead Park, La Mirada Avenue and Mitchell Freeway.

It will also include clearing 0.52ha of Bush Forever in Neerabup National Park, but the WA Planning Commission said the sewer would follow the Hall Road track, which minimised the amount of clearing required.

At the October 10 meeting, the panel agreed to the Water Corporation’s request to extend the approval timeframe from the standard two years to three years. The report said no public consultation was required.
