Gemma scores rare triple scouts honour

-

Gemma Ensor-Walker, a Cub Scout from Neerim South, has achieved three major milestones in Cub Scouting.

The 10-year-old has gained the Grey Wolf Award, the highest award a Cub Scout can achieve, and has earned every one of a possible 34 interest badges.

It’s a feat achieved by only a handful of Cubs in the nearly 100 years since they were founded.

Finally, Gemma has been appointed a Victorian Chief Scout ‘Ambassador’ with a leadership role, on behalf of the newly-invested Victorian Chief Scout, actor and former Scout Shane Jacobson.

Gemma joined Cubs in 2012, aged seven, and since then has made every effort to “do her best” , the Cubs promise when they are invested.

As a member of the 1st Neerim scout group, Gemma has had the opportunity to make new friends, go sailing, canoeing and hiking, sculpt, use a plasma cutter, paint, build, learn photography and carpentry, climb, do science experiments, go camping and fishing, grow vegies, build a fire safely, learn morse code and first aid, cook, stargaze, act, sing, make a working model of a hot air balloon, race billy carts, perform, play games, take part in Anzac Day and Remembrance ceremonies, serve her community and lead her peers.

She is looking forward to going up to Scouts and aims to achieve her Queen’s Scout Award, as did her mother and father before her.

Cub Scouts is open to boys and girls between the ages of seven and 10.

The 1st Neerim Cub Pack meets from 6.30-8pm on Wednesdays. Contact group leader Jo Derksen on 0435 956 461 for more details.
