Garfield has a day to forget

Division 2: Garfield lost to Yallourn 69/107.

Steve Whyte (skip, Bob Clarke, Les Pumphrey and Gary Helmore lost to A. Houston’s team 19/21. Garfield trailed 3/17 at the break but won seven of the next eight ends to be only a shot down on the 21st. Both teams got two ends each out of last four but Yallourn got three shots to Garfield’s two to hold off a great fightback by Garfield.

Steve Bassed (skip), Gary Payne, Ray Biffin and Stuart Gemmill drew with I. Burton’s team 25/25. Garfield led 10/5 on the fourth but Yallourn fought back to be up 17/16 at smoko. It was a hard-fought game till the end.

Tom Cleary (skip), Shane Oliver, Joe Lenders and Adrian Helmuth lost to J. Wasiukien’s team 13/29. Garfield was down 7/15 at the break, then won six ends to Yallourn’s five, but lost to a better side on the day.

Peter Lieshout (skip), Nick Henwood, Rod Hackett and Rod James lost to D. Martyn’s team 12/32. Garfield won four of the first six ends but Yallourn led 11/10 at smoko and extended the gap.

Division 5: Garfield lost to to Warragul 58/63.

Bob Lamport (skip), Wes Goodman, Phil Humphreys and Joe Deane lost to L. Duncan’s team 14/22. Garfield won five of first six ends but Warragul came back to lead 11/7 at smoko. It was a tight game after the break, Garfield getting within two shots on the 18th and again on the 22nd, but lost a five on the 23rd.

Gordon Moxey (skip), Wayne Gunton, Peter Smith and Dean Humphreys won 22/18. Garfield won seven of the first eight ends and led 14/7 on the 13th. Warragul got within three shots but Garfield held on.

Don Knight (skip), Frank Prins, Cliff Stephens John Vanschagen lost to T. Croft’s team 22/23. Scores were level on the fourth and ninth, but Garfield was down 12/15 at smoko. It was a hard fought game after the break with Garfield winning four of the first five but Warragul won six of the last seven ends.

Division 6: Garfield lost to Moe 30/58.

Judy Pocklington (skip), Isabel Deane, Bev Sainsbery and Ann Armstrong lost to R. Jackson’s team 16/23. Garfield was down 3/7 on the eighth. It was a tight game after the break with both teams winning ends but Moe won the last three.

Maureen Lamport (skip), Jill Rouse, Lexie Tayler and Keith Sainsbery lost to W. Lock’s team 14/35. Garfield was down 8/20 at the break and 9/25 on the 16th. After that they won five ends each but Garfield only got singles and could not stop Moe’s multiples.
