Upgrade for water main

Warragul & Drouin Gazette - - ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT -

Gippsland Water is upgrading the main water supply line for Warragul to minimise the impact on customers during disruptions.

In Warragul more than 50 customers, mostly businesses in the central business district, are connected to the main water supply pipe rather than a reticulated system.

GW acting operations manager Chris Wood said this meant there was no buffer for customers if there is an unplanned disruption to the water main.

“The upgrade will improve the ability to drain and refill the main thus reducing the time it takes to carry out repairs,” he said.

During the works all interruptions to water supply will be kept to a minimum and customers will be notified when water supply may be impacted.

Gippsland Water contractors will undertake some of the works at night in an effort to minimise the impact on business in the busy CBD.

The project is expected to take 10 weeks and is dependent on a number of factors including the weather.
