Improve parking

-

It would seem that disability parking all over Victoria does little to provide disability parking in the way that those with disability need, evidenced by all the examples provided by Change.org in their petition to have the laws changed in Victoria.

I have written to my local councillors about this (they just passed it onto council) and the reply from council is that they are only required to provide one spot per I don't know how many available but they will be generous and provide two.

I shop mainly in Warragul as the main street of Drouin is now ‘Real Estate Row’, and whilst able-bodied drivers can get a spot outside the shop they want to visit any time they want, I sometimes have to cruise around for five to 10 minutes to get a disabled parking spot anywhere near where I want to shop.

It is clear the council is run by regulations, not by reality. Therefore we need to wake them up from their bureaucratic slumber and demand disabled parking spaces that suit the needs of disabled people, not to satisfy regulations.

Therefore, the disabled who have parking problems, particularly in Warragul our main shopping centre, should write to their councillors (no use writing to council because all you will get is a standard form letter) demanding they respond to the needs of the disabled in a way that provides parking suitable to them.

As they seem unable to think for themselves, tell them just what you need. I said that we need at a minimum one in 10 parking spaces. In some places in Warragul, we are lucky to get one in 20 and in some places, there is none at all.
