Lightning round of junior football

It was a lightning round of the Warragul and District Junior Football League.

Teams proved their might against their opposition with high scoring reminiscen­t of the season's opening. Spectators can look forward to a more even competitio­n after the sides recuperate from this week's play.

Under 14

In what turned out to be an excellent game, Bunyip had the lead by a couple of goals most of the day.

Warranor came home strong in the last and got within a point, but Bunyip held on for a hard fought win.

Bunyip's Alex Dijkstra celebrated his 50 game milestone with a one point win.

The Blues got off to a slow start with Yarragon playing tough footy.

The Blues managed to get a few quick goals.

Yarragon got a couple of late shots in to narrow the margin, but couldn't take the lead.

Both teams came out hard, Garfield getting off to a great start.

Lots of pressure from both sides made for a low scoring first quarter.

Solid defensive work from Garfield saw them take away the win.

Longwarry got off to a slow open against Ellinbank, who were ready to boot goals.

Ellinbank's lead was huge at half time and provided a challenge for the Crows to overcome.

Longwarry opened up in the second and scored a couple of goals, but not enough to take the win.

The Drouin Jets hit the ground running, continuing to pressure Neerim Districts.

The Cats put in their all but the Jets were too strong, blazing through to a solid victory.

Hallora got off to a strong start to take a four goal lead at the first break.

The second quarter saw Caldermead­e fight back but Hallora maintained their lead.

It was a tough game for all who played, but Hallora came away with the win.

Under 12

Blues and Yarragon played out a very competitiv­e game.

The Warragul side got off to a good start, but Yarragon kept at them all day.

The scoreboard did not reflect the efforts of Yarragon at all.

The match kicked off with an evenly balanced first quarter.

The Stars started to take advantage of the wind and once awake, they started dominating the ball play and scored some good attacking goals.

Garfield improved their ball handling throughout the match and accumulate­d a good lead, to win the match.

Drouin stomped out on to the ground with tenacity, opening the scoring early with an enormous five goal haul.

Neerim Districts tried to stem the scoring flow but couldn't manage to halt the winners from a classy victory.

Bunyip came up against a very discipline­d Warranor side that were far too good on the day.

Bunyip contested well in the second quarter, but Warranor countered with fast ball movement and came away with a solid win.

Caldermead­e put in a great fight against Hallora who came through with their first win of the season.

Their first half wasn't up to Hallora's standard, but they picked up in the second, sneaking a goal in the final quarter. Hallora still came out on top. Improvemen­t shown by the Cobras still shows a need to continue to train hard to get some results on the board.

The Poowong-Loch Bulls came out strong against a good team, Cobras fought hard all game but the Bulls hung on to get the win.

Both teams fought hard with fantastic tackling and marks from both teams.

Ellinbank just managed to take their inside fifties and create some goals, getting them over the line against the Longwarry Crows.

Under 10

Both teams showed enthusiasm and showcased their skills with the Blues getting the first goal on the board.

Yarragon battled hard all day but were just no match for the Blues in the end.

The Warragul side ran out comfortabl­e winners but the scoreboard did not reflect the competitiv­e nature of the game.

The Colts started well, Garfield fought back hard to get on top in the second quarter.

In a seesaw event, the Colts came out firing in the third to take back the lead.

The fourth was set for a showdown with all players pumped up, in the end Colts ran out the leaders.

Both sides opened well, attacking strongly.

Drouin took the game early. Neerim fought back in the last quarter but the Jets were too strong in the end.

Bunyip learnt they have to play their best football against the top teams to get a win.

Warranor came out ready to play in the first quarter and kicked one goal and five behinds.

Bunyip, through intensity, clawed their way back into the game. Eventually the Bulldogs went down by a narrow margin.

Hallora got away to a fast start with three early goals before Caldermead­e put their first on the board.

Caldermead­e re-grouped and played strong footy with great marking and kicking to position after the first quarter, and keeping Hallora scoreless in the second.

Caldermead­e continued their skill work for the remainder of the game, and Hallora fought hard through second efforts, but fell just two points short late in the last quarter giving Caldermead­e the win.

The Cobras and the Bulls squared off in a tight battle that had the Drouin side nailing targets across the ground.

The Poowong-Loch side attempted to slow the passages of play, but the Cobras had taken control of the game.

It was a tense match-up for the Crows and Ellinbank, a low scoring first quarter for the opposition saw Longwarry take up a decent lead.

Ellinbank managed to mount a fight back in the second half, but it wasn't enough to topple Longwarry's lead.
