Spring show

Beau­ti­ful or­chids will fill the Drouin Angli­can Church Hall this week­end as the West Gipp­s­land Or­chid Club presents its an­nual spring show.

The show will be open from 9am to 4pm on Satur­day and Sun­day.

As well as a va­ri­ety of or­chids on dis­play, the show will fea­ture pot­ting demon­stra­tions, plant sales and mem­bers on hand to of­fer tips about grow­ing or­chids in West Gipp­s­land.

De­spite re­cent frosts pos­ing a few headaches, club pres­i­dent Bob Lowrie said mem­bers were keen to show­case their or­chids for Or­chid So­ci­eties Coun­cil of Vic­to­ria judges.

“It hasn’t been one of the bet­ter years but we’re still con­fi­dent of putting on a re­ally good show,” said Mr Lowrie.

The club has been run­ning for 30 years and at­tracts mem­bers from Bairns­dale to Koo Wee Rup.

En­try is $5 for adults and free for chil­dren.

Oboist Su­san Bat­ten of Mel­bourne’s Bay­side Cham­ber Play­ers is look­ing for­ward to meet­ing a new re­gional au­di­ence when they present “Music for a Golden Age” in War­ragul on Sun­day after­noon.
