Golden era for Re­nais­sance

The music of mas­ter com­posers Jo­hann Se­bas­tian Bach and Ge­orge Frid­eric Han­del will fill Wes­ley of War­ragul on Sun­day.

Re­nais­sance War­ragul is pre­sent­ing “Music for a Golden Age” at 2.15pm.

Ac­cord­ing to mem­bers of Mel­bourne’s Bay­side Cham­ber Play­ers, the 1680s marked a turn­ing point in the his­tory of fine music be­cause it was the decade when Bach and Han­del were born.

Mem­bers of the en­sem­ble, Claire Ni­chol­son (flute), Su­san Bat­ten (oboe) and De­bra McLeod (cello), will present the one-hour con­cert fea­tur­ing music by these two com­posers as well as by Tele­mann, Vi­valdi and Mar­cello who were all part of the “Golden Era”.

Mem­bers of Bay­side Cham­ber Play­ers have per­formed widely but this will be their first time in War­ragul.

“We look for­ward to meet­ing a new re­gional au­di­ence and ex­pe­ri­enc­ing the splen­did acous­tic of Wes­ley,” said oboist Su­san Bat­ten.

“Music for a Golden Age” is the sec­ond and fi­nal con­cert of the 2017 Re­nais­sance War­ragul se­ries.

Tick­ets are $25 for adults, $10 for stu­dents, $50 for fam­i­lies.
