A snapshot of the shire’s economic profile in the annual report revealed the estimated gross output for businesses in the shire for the 12 months to December 2016 was $3.9 billion.
Within the shire there are 14,127 local jobs, 4814 local businesses and 19,379 employed residents.
Manufacturing was the largest output sector at $724.7 million (18 per cent) with construction being the second highest at $556.5 million (14 per cent) and rental, hiring and real estate $450 million.
Agriculture, forestry and fishing is the fourth largest sector at $433 million.
Health care and social assistance was the largest employer in the shire, employing 1714 people. Agriculture is the second largest employer with 1683 people and then retail with 1648 people.
