Big win to Crows in squash

-

The Crows defeated the Eagles 3/9/93 to 0/3/75 and have moved to within one-point of top place on the Baw Baw Squash ladder.

Oscar Braaksma played positive squash to win in three games straight.

Steve Andrews won in four matches and in an epic match, Jim Wilkinson won in five hard fought games over a resilient Steve Mooney 9/6, 1/9, 10/9, 2/9, 9/5. Jim’s sterling effort was rewarded with the best player award for the round.

The Vultures defeated the Hawks 2/9/87 to 1/3/59 to hold onto third place.

Both Lynton McPhail and Peter Young won in three games.

In an energy sapping five game rubber the top number one player Jason Tainton held out Grace Stockwell (in her first match) to clinch victory. Playing off minus five points in each game, Jason just got home in the final game 9/3, 8/10, 9/4, 3/9, 9/7.

A total of 96 points were won including many handouts. It was a great spectacle as each player strived to gain an advantage.

Ladder: Hawks 28, Crows 27, Vultures 25, Eagles 21, Swans 14.

Round 10 has the Crows playing the Hawks and the Swans meet the Eagles. The Vultures have the bye.
