Bushrangers and rogues at Rokeby

Warragul & Drouin Gazette - - ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT -

A six-part series on 1860s bushranger Ben Hall will be on show at the studio of Rokeby artist Phil Henshall this weekend.

Phil put together the Ben Hall series in 2013 based on a poem he wrote, “The Lachlan Cavalier”.

The original portrait had Ben looking directly at the camera. However, Phil endeavoured to place the viewer in his studio watching the photograph being taken.

The Ben Hall series, plus some portraits of other rogues and characters, will be on show and for sale at Phil’s studio on Saturday and Sunday.

The series won’t be separated for sale, but individual pieces are available for six-month lease.

Phil’s studio is located 1116 Main Neerim Rd, Rokeby.

The studio is open to the public on the second weekend of the month or by appointment, with a minimum of six theme changes per year.
