Morwell has made an early start to its quest to move up the ladder next season with the appointment of highly credentialled Denis Knight as nonplaying coach for the next two years.

After a distinguished playing career in the Tasmanian football league and VFL with Dandenong and Springvale, including in premiership sides, Knight has successfully coached in Melbourne metropolitan leagues and the Queensland AFL.

He replaces playing coach Joel Soutar who advisede the club some time ago that he was relinquishing the role.

Soutar took the reins during the 2016 season after the departure of the previous coach.

Morwell will start pre-season training for its senior and junior sides in November.

President Paul Spagnolo said the club had been casting its eyes around for a coach for the past two months.

He said Knight impressed with his record of growing and developing teams.

We believe we have a great group of young senior players and quality juniors coming through, Spagnolo said.
