Saturday was medal day, which attracted a field of 65 and was played in cool and showery conditions.
Finding the winner was an easy task as Bob Gough had his personal best score by coming in with a winning score of 76 off the stick, which equated to a net 60 playing off his mark of 16.
Gough’s round was that good that he actually scored better off the stick than Gus McKillop, who plays off a handicap of just one. His score of 77 was the best A grade scratch score for the day.
Paul Renehan was the next best score in with a fine round of net 67 playing off his handicap of 19.
Peter Medwin won the A grade handicap event with a round of net 68 plying off his mark of 11, while Stephen Bird won the C grade handicap event with a net 71 playing off his handicap of 31. Malcolm Hirt had the best C grade scratch score for the day with a round of 95 off the stick.
Overall scoring for the day proved to be very difficult with just the six players able to play to their handicap or better.
A field of 51 players came out for a game on Thursday with Gary Kelly enjoying a good run of form by coming in with the day’s best round of 40 points to win the B grade event, just the one point in front of Neville Howe.
Trevor Male won the A grade event with a score of 37 points playing off his mark of 10, one point in advance of Ian Hopper and a further point to Ian Archer in third place. A final score of 35 points down to a count back was needed to get a ball down the line.
A field of 30 came out for a game on the public holiday Friday with similar winning scores to the day before.
Rick Falcone won the A grade event with a score of 40 points playing off his mark of 14, while Daniel Schmidt won the B grade event with the same score, playing off his mark of 31.
Thirty-six was the number needed to win a ball down the line.
The annual three-person ambrose event is scheduled for Saturday October 27 with a shot gun start at 9am. The event is always a field sell-out, with a huge prize pool of $3000 this year.
Entry size is restricted to 38 teams of three, so if you are thinking of playing phone the club to enter as soon as possible. Saturday is a game of single stableford. The club hosted a play nine event on Sunday, which is run by golf Victoria. The winner goes on to play in further events with the opportunity to play at Royal Melbourne and then overseas.
