Micro-abattoir pioneers to speak at conference
A SOUTH Australian on-farm micro-abattoir service for small-scale meat producers is planning a major expansion mid-year and farmers are invited to hear the story next month in Adelaide.
The husband-and-wife team say there is appetite among farmers hoping to collaborate to establish regional micro-abattoirs.
Prize-winning SA lamb producers Phil and Michele Lally dispersed their flock to focus on the new venture.
The shift is an extension of the ‘stress-free’ animal husbandry philosophy that saw the Lallys’ Savannah Lamb brand score multiple state and national awards.
The couple’s commitment to land stewardship also earned them numerous sustainability awards and they have been officially recognised as visionary leaders by the meat industry.
They are now busy manufacturing customised micro-abattoir units after receiving funding through the South Australian Primary Industries Advanced Food Manufacturers grant.
Farmer registrations for the June 6 conference are now open at www.farmingtogether .com.au.
