QCGA accuses Baiada of blatant profiteering
BAIADA will close its Ipswich processing facility and cancel contracts with farmers in South East Queensland has come as a devastating blow to the chicken industry.
The Queensland Chicken Growers Association (QCGA) has condemned the decision by Baiada accusing it of blatant corporate profiteering at the expense of its viable and productive farmers.
QCGA president Jodie Redcliffe estimated the decision would strip growers of a conservative $150 million in lost production and devaluation of their farms.
The 26 affected growers (28 farms) operate 155 purpose-built poultry houses and employ over 80 workers within the SEQ region and supply the Ipswich processing facility with approximately 23 million chickens per annum.
“The entire Queensland industry is in shock.” Ms Redcliffe said.
