Kandanga offering a range of top-quality bulls
THE 8th annual Kandanga Valley ‘Satellite’ bull sale will be held at the Braeside Saleyards, Nebo. This year the sale has been brought forward to Saturday, November 11, the day following the Nebo beef country brahman bull sale.
Thirty five quality coastal-reared charolais and charbray bulls will be presented for buyers’ competition on the day and the sale starts at 10am.
Leading off with 17 muscle-packed charolais bulls, stud principal, John Mercer said Kandanga Valley charolais bulls were bred to cross with bos indicus females to achieve maximum returns.
“We like to see plenty of muscle, good bone, a strong masculine head, plus mobility and sound structure in our charolais bulls,” he said. “Add to this the fact that we run our stud cows like a commercial herd with fertility being a major priority.
“This year we have some very nice polled charolais bulls on offer with six of the 17 being polled, plus two red factor bulls (including one polled and red factor).”
As a special treat this year the stud is offering a quality young bull straight from their show team as Lot 17 Kandanga Valley Nike.
“Just nine months of age, this stylish little dude would be an asset in any herd and a real find for anyone wanting to grow their new bull with their herd or take him on to show,” he said. Of the 18 charbrays, six are polled and John says this is as good a line of young charbrays that we have ever presented at Nebo. A feature is Lot 19, a cherry red charbray with quality written all over him. From nose to tail, John says he is a ripper.
“He is deep and soft with plenty of bone and has a very good temperament. He would do justice to any herd of red cows,” he said. There are also some pink-nosed, gold-coloured bulls that would certainly fit into a charbray stud herd or a good commercial herd looking for depth of body and that little extra finish. Lots 18 and 29 by Kandanga Valley Frisco are just two that really stand out.
There are also some higher brahman content bulls that would do the job of a brahman but with a little more bone and muscling.
All bulls have been vaccinated with three-day, three germ blood, 7in1, pestivirus, and botulism.
Muscle and fat scans plus semen results are available prior to sale. Kandanga Valley bulls are used to being mustered with dogs, horses and quad bikes. Agents are Landmark, Mackay and Hayes & Co, Nebo. For videos of the bulls visit their Facebook page by searching Kandanga Valley Charolais & Charbray Stud.
