‘Were­wolf’ cop ad­mits killing 81

FOR­MER Rus­sian po­lice of­fi­cer Mikhail Popkov, dubbed the Were­wolf, has con­fessed to slay­ing a stag­ger­ing 81 women and there could be even more. Al­ready found guilty of 22 mur­ders, he has at­tained the du­bi­ous hon­our of be­ing Rus­sia’s worst se­rial killer. Popkov’s modus operandi was to sex­u­ally as­sault the vic­tims be­fore un­leash­ing any sharp weapon he could – be it a knife, tool or even an axe. Over 20 years, be­fore his even­tual cap­ture, he wore his po­lice uni­form as he lured drunken vic­tims into his po­lice car, of­fer­ing them late-night rides home.
