FBI fac­ing probe over Clin­ton

THE FBI’s de­ci­sion to an­nounce the re­open­ing of an in­quiry into Hil­lary Clin­ton’s emails shortly be­fore Elec­tion Day in the US is about to face Jus­tice De­part­ment scru­tiny. The probe comes in re­sponse to re­quests from mem­bers of Congress and the pub­lic. Mrs Clin­ton con­sid­ers the an­nounce­ment a fac­tor in her de­feat. The Of­fice of In­spec­tor General said it would look at de­ci­sions lead­ing up to pub­lic state­ments by FBI Di­rec­tor James Comey (pic­tured) about the in­ves­ti­ga­tion and whether de­ci­sions might have been based on “im­proper con­sid­er­a­tions”.
