What’s trending on social media this week

Warwick Daily News - - TREND - with Alexia Purcell Alexia Purcell is a News Corp social media editor.

LAST weekend, MP George Christensen said he was going to put up a motion at The Nationals Federal Conference calling for a ban on full facial coverings in all government buildings and public spaces.

Mr Christensen said if adopted, Nationals members and senators would take steps to see this brought in as government policy.

He went on to say: “This is a legitimate security concern for most Australians, and, quite simply, it is common sense which has been side-lined by the pc police.

“People who seek to conceal their identity pose a security risk – plain and simple.”

We took the opinion piece to our Facebook pages asking our fans: YES OR NO: Should full facial coverings be banned in public spaces?

The posts received hundreds of comments. And they supported both sides of the debate.

One Facebook user said: “Yes absolutely. We can’t walk around the streets with helmets or balaclavas on.”

Another said: “No, definitely not! I feel comfortable and secure enough to let others wear whatever they like.”
