AMERICAN rapper Macklemore cancelled his scheduled media conference yesterday ahead of his controversial performance at the NRL grand final tomorrow.

However, the musician’s publicist said the conference had been cancelled.

It’s unclear whether the singer is even in the country, but he is expected to make his rehearsals today.

Despite calls from politician Tony Abbott to ban the song from the grand final because it “politicises” sport, it has climbed back up the Australian charts and is No.1 on iTunes.

Macklemore wrote on Twitter yesterday morning: “Yesterday someone started a petition in Australia to ban me from playing Same Love at the #NRLGF. Today its #1 on iTunes. Love is winning.”
