FOLLOWING in the footsteps of British superstar Robbie Williams, fellow Brit singing legend Seal is on the swing train with the release of his latest album, Standards.
The record pays tribute to swing and jazz greats including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone.
Seal (pictured) said of his 10th studio album that it was the record he always wanted to make.
“I grew up listening to music from the Rat Pack era, so recording these timeless tunes was a lifelong dream,” he said.
“It was a true honour to collaborate with the same musicians who performed with Frank Sinatra and so many of my favourite artists, in the very same studios where the magic was first made – it was one of the greatest days of my recording career.”
Seal’s new album draws on the bygone glamour of Old Hollywood and includes interpretations of hits including Sinatra classics I’ve Got You Under My Skin and It Was A Very Good Year.
The singer also collaborated with some of the legendary musicians who performed with Sinatra: Randy Waldman (pianist who toured with Sinatra and Paul Anka), Chuck Berghofer (bass player, who performed with Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles) and Greg Fields (drummer who also performed with Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder).
The latest album is a natural successor to his series of soul records, made a decade ago, which sold more than five million copies worldwide. Standards will be released on November 10 through Decca Records/Virgin EMI. Image credit: Chris Pizzello/AP
