Better region focus for funds

Federal Govt opens new round of regional support

Warwick Daily News - - NEWS - Jonno Colfs

JOB creation and security is at the forefront of another round of Building Better Regions funding announced by the Federal Government this week.

The funding is specifically targeted to improve and increase liveability in regional communities and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the funding would provide a huge boost.

“In the last round of funding we secured

$4.8 million to build a cold storage facility at John Dee,” Mr Littleproud said.

“This meant 143 direct new jobs and 136 indirect jobs locally, over 250 new jobs for an area like this means more teachers, more doctors, more money for the community.

“This funding is only available in regional areas, where it has a much greater bang for its buck – the flow-on effects are more pronounced.”

Mr Littleproud said round 2 of the BBRF was open until December 19.

“The BBRF is divided into two streams,” he said.

“The Infrastructure Projects Stream will invest in new infrastructure construction or existing project upgrades; and the Community Investments Stream is about strengthening liveability.”

Under the National Stronger Regions Fund, Mr Littleproud secured more than $17 million for projects in Maranoa and is keen for as many projects as possible to taken advantage of the BBRF. Mr Littleproud said private businesses must have local government support before applying.

“Business cases must be completed and plans must be shovel ready,” he said.
