Toxic fire in Melbourne
FIREFIGHTERS yesterday contained the perimeter of a warehouse blaze that spewed toxic plumes over Melbourne’s west.
MFB deputy chief officer Ken Brown said about 140 firefighters battled the blaze, which erupted in the 100m by 200m Somerville Rd building about 5am.
“This morning, the fire was fully involved in the whole building. We’ve managed to contain the perimeter fire and we’ve got a fire burning within the centre. We’re now working on a strategy to knock the fire down,” he said yesterday.
