Killer’s ‘evil’ plan to slay mother and take her kids
AN INFERTILE woman who was the “architect” of the murder of an intellectually impaired woman, so she could take custody of her children, has been jailed for 30 years.
Christine Lyons, 47, desperately wanted children of her own and put together a “heartless and thoroughly evil” plan to kill 39-year-old Samantha Kelly, with the aim of taking custody of her children.
Both Christine’s then-partner, Peter Arthur, and former lover, Ronald Lyons, helped her. The trio lived together along with Ronald’s three children, with Ms Kelly living in a bungalow at the back of the Bendigo home.
On January 20, 2016, Christine and Ronald Lyons fed Ms Kelly drugs but she did not die.
Then on January 22 or January 23, Christine (picshe tured) directed Arthur to kill Ms Kelly with an “alternative method” – a hammer.
Christine Lyons, who was convicted of both attempted murder and murder, will spend at least 23 years in jail.
Ronald Lyons, 46, who is unrelated, was jailed for 12 years, with a minimum of nine years, for attempted murder and assisting an offender.
He was cleared of murder charges.
Arthur was previously jailed for 22 years, with a minimum 18 years, after pleading guilty to murder.
